Health and Teacher Education: Investigating the Teaching Degree Courses in Pedagogy in Public Universities of the Baixada Fluminense
Teacher training, teacher illness, teaching practices, Baixada Fluminense.
Throughout my professional life, I have observed many colleagues facing extreme exhaustion, burnout syndrome, and other psychological disorders, without finding sufficient institutional support. The need for public policies that promote healthier and more sustainable school environments has become even more evident. Initial and continuing teacher training can be an essential instrument to strengthen teachers and better prepare them to face the challenges of the profession. The general objective of this research is to analyze how the theories of teacher training are present in the teaching degree courses of public institutions in the Baixada Fluminense address the issue of teacher illness. The methodology is qualitative and is based on the theoretical framework of the area, the analysis of the curricula of the teaching degree courses in Pedagogy of the public universities of the Baixada Fluminense (Faculty of Education of the Baixada Fluminense of the State University of Rio de Janeiro – FEBF/UERJ – Duque de Caxias campus, the Institute of Education - IE - and the Multidisciplinary Institute – IM - of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro – UFRRJ – Seropédica campus and Nova Iguaçu campus) understanding how these courses approach teacher training, especially with regard to preparing for the challenges of pedagogical practice and promoting the health and well-being of teachers. In addition to the curricula, the analysis of the Pedagogical Projects of the Courses (PPCs) will be very important to understand if and how the training processes consider the factors that impact mental health and teaching working conditions, contributing to the construction of a more critical, humanized training committed to professional appreciation.
