SUMMARY:

The present study emphasizes the participatory process of collectivities with alternative lifestyles to
modern society, experienced in horizontal relations as an important element of contribution to
human emancipation, which could make possible the transformation of the current society. Based
on the premise that the environmental educator is a key figure as mediator of an educational process
and that its pedagogical action can be directly associated to the personal characteristics determined
by its history, institutional formation, experiences, as well as by the adoption of conscious practices
, from reflection and concretized in a coherence of life and in their political, social and
environmental positions, aims to identify the subjectivities, motivations and ways of life in
intentional communities formed by people who migrated from urban areas in search of experiencing
in their sustainable practices that generate little impact and make them self-sufficient. That is, living
in alternative communities, built together with their own intentions. From this, it is sought to verify
what are the inspiration elements of these inhabitants and how their personal experiences,
individually and collectively built in the daily life of these communities are experienced. And if
they can be associated with important elements that contribute to the formation in a critical and
transformative Environmental Education, that intends formation of "being more environmental". To
this end, questionnaires and interviews will be conducted with residents of these communities in
order to understand how decisions are made, to what extent they are horizontal, how the
relationship between human beings, society and nature is established and whether they are defined
from a pedagogical or non-pedagogical ; the development of thought and a critical awareness are
enabled and what are their present values that can be crucial in a paradigm transition.
