Social Representations of Evangelicals: a comparative study between Evangelicals and non-Evangelicals
social representations; religion; secularity
The present work sought to investigate Brazilian-style secularism as a political-social phenomenon that has as its peculiarity its foundation in French positivist ideas, but which in practice behaves with traces of the North American model due to the historical connection of the Brazilian State with religion. Christian and crosses issues of republicanism, religion, political participation, democracy, ethics and morals. We start from a psychosocial perspective having as main theoretical reference the Theory of Social Representations proposed by Serge Moscovici from the perspective of the structural approach and dialoguing with the concepts of disenchantment of the world, secularization and political participation. The psychosocial view of the theory of social representations allows a privileged look at the experiences and needs for understanding reality shared by a group or groups, whether homogeneous or not. Secularity, in turn, can be understood as a political phenomenon that derives from the State and not from religion, has a restrictive character and can be understood as the exclusion or absence of religion from the public sphere. Ranquetat Jr understands that secularism implies the neutrality of the State in religious matters. This neutrality has two different meanings, namely: the first already mentioned, related to the absence/exclusion of religion and the second linked to the sense of impartiality of the State with respect to religions, which results in the need for the State to treat with equality the religions without excluding them from public spaces. For data collection, we used a quantitative and qualitative perspective that allowed the identification of causes, consequences, characteristics and social practices related to the type of understanding that each group has about secularism through free evocation tasks, a sociodemographic questionnaire and questions to help analyze. The survey will be done online, through Google Forms with 200 participants. For the compilation and prototypical analysis of data we will use the Iramuteq software.
