Violence against women is considered a serious public health problem and a violation of human rights, and Brazil is the fifth country that kills the most women in the world. And in a country with a patriarchal culture, violence against women ends up being naturalized, making it difficult for the cycle of violence to be broken. Education can be a strong ally in preventing and combating violence against women, as education is considered the best means of preventing and combating violence, being fundamental for the denaturalization of violence against women and the formation of a new awareness. for children and teenagers. Education raises awareness and enables children and adolescents to be transforming agents of reality. In this sense, the Basic Education teacher, which corresponds to Early Childhood Education, Elementary School and High School, is one of the main actors in this whole process. Making use of the Theory of Social Representations proposed by Serge Moscovici, who advocates that we produce a socially shared thought that directs social practices, we aimed to analyze the social representations of basic education teachers from municipal schools in the city of Rio de Janeiro, in relation to woman in a situation of violence. After all, their beliefs and their social representations will influence the way they position themselves and relate to the world, will guide their behavior and practices, guide their actions and reactions in life. And for this, a free evocation test will be used as a data collection instrument, which, based on the inducing term “Women in situations of violence”, will ask participants to spontaneously express the first five words that come to mind. And for the analysis of the data obtained, the iramuteq software will be used, which allows us to carry out a structural analysis, which seeks to discover the constitutive elements of the representation, to know its organization, and to discover the central nucleus of this representation.
