INDIVIDUATION PROCESS AND SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION:
In light of extreme sports practice and promotion of public policies.
extreme sports; psychosocial consequences; individuation; social transformation.
This research aims to focus on the practice of extreme sports, particularly investigating the BMX Freestyle modality, and the psychosocial consequences of its practice on the subjectivity of individuals in the community context of the middle and lower class. To this end, a pilot sports training project was carried out in a public square in the Campo Grande neighborhood of the suburb of Rio de Janeiro, to observe the importance of the practice of this sport, BMX Freestyle, in the social development of the individuals involved. As the backdrop of the pilot project, the concept of "individuation process" developed by psychiatrist and psychologist Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961) served as a parameter for analysis of the experiences brought by the subjects during the training sessions, considering this concept intertwined with biopsychosocial demands, and generating self-knowledge linked to the development of the personality of individuals - not individualistic in society.
