The selection process by which the Brazilian public administration hires its civil servants is the Public Tender, which is considered to be the broadest and most democratic means of access to employment or public office. Involved in the work of multiple scientific disciplines, its stages contain specific characteristics and regulations. The objective of this study was to analyze the psychological assessment stage in the Brazilian Federal Police competitive examinations over the last 20 years. In March 2023, 894 documents were collected from the institution's website, referring to the competitions held from 2004 to 2023. Following eligibility criteria, 26 documents were selected for analysis. We investigated aspects such as: year of publication, type of document selected, positions available, exam board, data on the assessment stage and psychological characteristics of the professional profile. The results showed that single one organizing body was responsible for the 6 selection processes analyzed, providing vacancies for 5 different positions. The use of psychological instruments and tests was adopted in 100% of the competitions analyzed, in the first process they also used psychological techniques and in the last they complemented this with the use scales, inventories, projective methods, expressive methods, psychological interviews and individual and group observation. There was mention of 62 psychological characteristics, no distinction between the job profiles of the positions on offer and there was no definition of the psychological characteristics, description of the scores or classifications required.
