SUMMARY:

This study's main objective is to identify the motivational factors and social representations of students from an agricultural technical college practicing physical activity in sports and leisure. The sample was made up of 120 students from a federal Technical College in the city of Seropédica/RJ, in their secondary school years, of both sexes and aged between 15 and 19 years old. To this end, two questionnaires were applied: Scale of Reasons for Practicing Physical Activity (MPAM-R), which is a scale that evaluates five reasons for practicing physical exercise; and a General Information questionnaire prepared by the author, containing questions regarding personal information, such as: education, age, gender and information about physical activity. Furthermore, a free word recall scheme was incorporated in relation to the topic studied: Physical Activity. The analysis of data from the structural approach to representation was carried out through similarity analysis and prototypical analysis, with the help of the IraMuTeQ software and the motivational factors related to this theory were treated through inferential statistics using the SPSS 20.0 program, version for Windows ®. The results highlighted the term health as a central element of the representation and also as the main motivational factor. The meaning of health exposed in this research shows the importance of adhering to physical activity to achieve a healthy life. This research was completed in February 2024.
