Spirituality, optimism and self-esteem in the context of the formation of the combat officer of the Brazilian Army

The present work has the theme spirituality, optimism and self-esteem in the context of training the combat officer of the Brazilian Army. It sought the following general and specific objectives: a) Investigate the influence of spirituality and optimism on the self-esteem of AMAN cadets; b) Compare the study variables depending on the Cadet’s specialty on the course. This is a field research, transversal in the composition of the sample, carried out in the year 2020/2021, set at the Academia Militar das Agulhas Negras (AMAN), with the participation of cadets from the four years of the Army officer training course Brazilian (n=362). The following research instruments were used: a) Rosenberg self-esteem scale; b) WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION spirituality scale; c) optimism scale (life orientation test - lot-r). The methodology applied included qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis techniques, including descriptive statistics and analysis of variable correlations, in addition to structural equation modeling. Among the research results are analyzes using the structural equation modeling technique. Among the main results, the following stand out: the existence of a significant positive influence of Spirituality on Optimism; the existence of a significant influence of Spirituality on Self-esteem; the existence of the significant influence of Optimism on spirituality. In the general model intended for the study, the mediating role of optimism in the influence of spirituality on self-esteem was observed. The results are discussed based on the possibility of developing training programs for the study variables – self-esteem, spirituality and optimism, as well as themes related to Positive Psychology – in the context of training Combatant Officers in the Brazilian Army.
