T.O.P.A - PARENTAL GUIDANCE TRAINING FOR PARENTS IN POST ADOPTION PROCESS

This research study aimed to elaborate and implement a parental training and guidance
program for parents going through post-adoption process and who have come to meet their
children during the kids’ early childhood. In addition to the development of a program
implementation guide. Family formation through adoption has gained more space in the
Brazilian scenario. However, the obstacles faced by those families are complex and, for the
most part neglected, mainly during the post-adoption period; when most conflicts may arise. It
is expected that this research may engage on behalf of those parents' comprehension about
who their kids are and how the understanding of their history and previous context may assist
the bonding and family stability. The theoretical framework was developed with the purpose
of perceiving the adoption process as a historical and social construct, acknowledging how the
current brazilian adoptive system is, who are the adopted children, who are the “returned”
ones; Integrative review of national and international literature was created to support both the
construction of the theoretical foundation and the development of the program. The
methodology used in this study was the multi-method approach, with a convenience sample
and quantitative and qualitative approaches; the results of the program implementation are to
be discussed through the analysis techniques by Bardin. It is thus intended by this study to
strengthen the family’s bond to prevent the process of returning a child to the adoptive
system.
