SUMMARY:

Street markets can be the object of investigation in different fields of knowledge, such as economics, architecture, geography, sociology, psychology, among others. There is extensive research material on this practice, which has spanned time from Antiquity to the present day, configuring itself as a territory of multiple cultures, knowledges, and encounters. Given its economic, social, and cultural relevance, this cartography aims to understand, through the narratives of street vendors, the micro- and macropolitical processes present in this territory, as well as to follow the lines of force that constitute street market practices; to identify the social and affective relationships that may emerge in the market; and to understand the construction of street market territories through the narratives of vendors. The study adopts as its theoretical framework the Philosophy of Difference, developed by Deleuze and Guattari, along with other authors who engage with cartographic perspectives within the same horizon. As for methodology, this research will employ the procedure of Derive, understood as a bodily strategy for “wandering” through the market, acknowledging that this procedure does not presuppose a single mode of access to the experiential plane in order to explore and conduct interviews; the cartographic interview, which seeks to welcome and listen to the vendor’s experience; and the Field Diary, a fundamental tool for recording the affects mobilized during the course of the Derive and the interviews. This is a powerful project that can contribute to the development of cultural and health public policies aimed at people engaged in this practice, which is recognized in Brazil as part of our cultural heritage.
