SUMMARY:

Accessibility and Inclusion Centers in Brazilian universities represent an important advance in guaranteeing the right to education at all levels. These centers playafundamental role in the development of accessibility strategies and institutional inclusion policies, contributing not only to the admission of students with disabilities, but also to their permanence and successful completion of higher education withautonomy and dignity. The author’s experience coordinating an inclusion center inahigher education institution has raised several questions regarding the workanddemands directed toward these centers. Based on these experiences, affections, andestrangements, this research aims to investigate the work developed by accessibilityand inclusion centers in higher education institutions, considering both the perspectiveof those responsible for coordinating and working in these centers and the perspectiveof students with disabilities who benefit from their actions. Thus, the study seeks tounderstand how inclusion centers are constituted and how Psychology can contributeto more inclusive practices for students with disabilities in the university environment through the work carried out by these centers. To this end, the research adopts aqualitative approach, guided by the principles of the PesquisarCOMmethod, anduses semi-structured interviews and field diaries as research tools. The study discusses thebiomedical and social models of disability, as well as the concepts of accessibilityandinclusion, articulating them with the historical development of Special EducationinBrazil and the consolidation of Special Education from the Inclusive Perspective. Furthermore, the historical trajectory and the role of accessibility and inclusioncenters in promoting the access and permanence of students with disabilities in higher education will be addressed. Interviews will be conducted with coordinators and/or workers from inclusion centers at three higher education institutions, public or private, located in the Southern Fluminense region, including the Federal Rural Universityof Rio de Janeiro. Students with disabilities from the same institutions will alsoparticipate in the study. It is expected that this research will contribute tostrengthening inclusion and accessibility policies in higher education, fosteringcritical reflections on institutional practices and on the guarantee of the right toeducation for all.
