In adolescence, assessment skills are less evolved and are often expressed in impulsive acts such as substance abuse. These behaviors are related to a wide cortico-subcortical network of the brain that is mature only in early adulthood. In view of this scenario, the objective of this study was to make feasible the elaboration of an evaluation protocol focused on the identification of possible relations between substance use and the impulsivity constructs and the ability to control the behavior (inhibitory control) of adolescents who use drugs. Therefore, in study 1 a systematic review of literature on this subject based on the PRISMA guidelines protocol was carried out. The results of 34 articles selected in the SciELO, PsycINFO, PubMed and Lilacs databases were discussed. Twenty-one studies found detrimental effects of the interaction between substance use and adolescent impulsivity, showing that youngsters with greater substance involvement tended to have higher levels of impulsivity than those with less involvement. Study 2, on the other hand, had as a methodological outline the elaboration of a protocol of neuropsychological evaluation to investigate these relations. Normative instruments were used with support in the scientific literature of the area and tests approved by the Federal Council of Psychology, such as scales, inventories, formal batteries and questionnaires. These assessed socioeconomic, psychosocial aspects, intelligence, psychopathology, impulsivity, inhibitory control, attention and problematic use of alcohol and other drugs. The final result was intended to provide a neuropsychological profile that could allow the orientation of possible interventions on the most impaired domains and the best use of the potentialities of adolescents at risk.
