RESUMO:

In an attempt to take the reader to a critical analysis regarding mental health, the research addresses the offshore sector and a relationship with the factors that lead to the emergence of anxiety and stress symptoms. Taking a panoramic look at the Brazilian petroleum industry, there is an accelerated development regarding the dynamics of work, so, with this framework in mind, this study focuses on the recognition and importance of the physical and mental limits of this work category that are not respected often. The literature review of this study shows that stress and anxiety are symptoms that strongly affect this class of workers, demonstrating a strong stiffening of the worker's personality and lack of information regarding mental health.

Considering that the study on this theme is still scarce in the currently scientific literature, this work has as its initial proposal to enrich the scientific field on this subject and to provide more information and questions about the mental health of these professionals. Subsequently, from the foregoing, this work has as general objective to investigate the offshore work and to verify if the work embarked, in fact, has aggravating factors that allow the emergence of stress and anxiety. For the data collection, a quantitative approach of sampling for convenience was opted, using as a tool for data collection the stress scale at work (EST) in reduced format and the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). This research has as expected results to show that the offshore work and its singularities are aggravating the symptoms of stress and anxiety.
