RESUMO:

This study aimed to investigate the existence of possible social representations about the term offender in adolescents in conflict with the law and to point out their psychosocial implications. This approach arose from a long professional experience in the socio-educational scope and from various concerns about this daily life. We use Serge Moscovici's Theory of Social Representations as the main theoretical reference, accompanied by the structural approach of Jean-Claud Abric, seeking to identify the central and peripheral nucleus of such social representations. This research was of a qualitative nature, and three data collection instruments were used: the Word Free Evocation Task from the term "offender", in which the participants answered five words or phrases associated with this term; a sociodemographic questionnaire composed of 14 questions, aiming at identifying the profile of the investigated population and three open questions, aiming at identifying the self-perception of the offending term in each adolescent, whether or not this term affected his or her life and in what way and if they received a treatment differentiated because of their situation and who would do it. The research was carried out in the Educandário Santo Expedito (DEGASE hospitalization unit), located in Bangu, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, involving 100 adolescents during the month of December 2017. The results pointed out the terms Bandit, Preconception, Traffic and Theft as probable constituent elements of the Central Core and the terms Crime, Prison, Death, Homicide, Drugs and Rape as representatives of the two peripheries.
