RESUMO:

Adolescence has been a subject of interest both in studies in the field of developmental psychology and in social psychology. This study is a qualitative and exploratory research, in which the general objective was to identify adolescents' perceptions of adolescents who are in an institutional setting, and the specific objectives were to analyze how they understand the institutional their experiences in hosting units and their plans for the future. The analysis was based on the socio-historical approach that considers adolescence as a historically constructed category. The participants were seven female adolescents, aged between 12 and 17 years, in a host unit in the Baixada Fluminense region. The instrument used was an open questionnaire, and the responses were categorized according to the content analysis (Bardin, 2011). The categories presented as results the perception of adolescence abandoned, misunderstood, cruel and with no affection. Adolescence pervaded by segregating and racist territory. Producing dialogue between adolescents in institutional care and adolescence favors an understanding of how they perceive themselves through the period. Understanding what is captured from adolescents' views on adolescence through the walls of the institutional reception is paramount for changes in previously invisible paradigms, serving to broaden and cope with the multifaceted ways of adolescent unity.
