SUMMARY:

This research aims to describe and compare the social representations that two social groups have about the figure of the “good citizen”, based on their declared political position of right and left. This phenomenon of the “good citizen” points to a radicalization and political polarization of the country, reflecting a high degree of intolerance for divergent opinions in a democracy. This research will be quantitative and qualitative. Therefore, it will use a triangulation of methods, from three main sources to describe and investigate the phenomenon: the first study will be a free evocation task with 200 research participants and a questionnaire with 10 questions on conflicting everyday themes; the second will present the result of the analysis of journalistic sources from markedly ideological social media to analyze the social construction of the “good citizen” by political groups; the third will present an analysis of social networks where the encounter and the free expression of political thought take place and its consequences for the polarized climate of Brazilian society. It is expected to contribute to the understanding of the current Brazilian political-social scenario based on common sense and its social representations.
