SUMMARY:

This work consists of an analysis of the bibliographical review of the psychosocial issues highlighted in the experience of solo mothers in contexts of vulnerability, exploring the challenges they face. The aim is to make an academic contribution to studies focusing on the obstacles of this solo experience and coping strategies, with an emphasis on deconstructing social roles, the social stigma associated with solo motherhood and the problems produced by the notion of the traditional family. This discussion is based on the intersections of class, race and gender, as cross-cutting factors when it comes to motherhood. Finally, the aim is to explore how it might be possible to promote the development of strategies to deal with obstacles, strengthening other ties beyond the idea of the standard family and re-signifying the idea of motherhood itself.
