PSYCHOMETRIC PROPERTIES OF THE ITEMS OF THREE INSTRUMENTS FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF PHONOLOGICAL AWARENESS
Phonological Awareness; Assessment Instruments; Psychometric Qualities;
Items.
Phonological awareness is identified in the literature as one of the precursor skills for the acquisition of reading and writing, and the successful assessment of this successful assessment of this skill can indicate to teachers and professionals in the field any difficulties difficulties. However, Brazil lacks standardized instruments for this assessment. And it is necessary to reflect on those that already exist. The aim of this study was to verify the psychometric properties of the items in three phonological awareness assessment instruments Phonological Awareness: the Phonological Awareness Assessment Guide (RACF), the Phonological Awareness Test by Oral Production (PCFO) and the Phonological Awareness Phonological Awareness: Sequential Assessment Tool (CONFIAS), through Factor Analyses and the Analysis and Item Response Theory (IRT). In addition, we sought to investigate the number of factorial dimensions of each instrument and the pattern of correlations between its items; to verify the difficulty of the items; to present the qualitative error of the items of each instrument; to verify the presence of differential functioning (DIF) in the items of the instruments for gender and school year; and to see if there are any contributions in the study that indicate the adequacy of the instruments. The study included 400 children of between 6 and 8 years of age, attending the 1st to 3rd year of elementary school in two municipal schools in Mesquita - RJ. The results showed that, in relation to factor analysis, the three instruments presented reliable models for inferences about the relationships between phonological awareness variables. As for the students' estimated ability in relation to the questions in the RACF, PCFO and CONFIAS, it was possible to observe that in the RACF, the items Initial Syllable 4, Initial Syllable Syllable 1 and Initial Syllable 5, respectively, had the lowest difficulty index in the test. difficulty in the test, while the items Final Syllable 3 and Final Syllable 1, respectively, had the highest difficulty index in the test. In the PCFO, the items Syllabic Synthesis 1, Syllabic Synthesis 2, Syllabic Segmentation 1 and Syllabic Segmentation 3 were the items with the lowest difficulty index in the test; the items Phonemic Transposition 4 and Phonemic Transposition 2, respectively, were the most were the most difficult in the test. Finally, in CONFIAS, the items Syllabic Synthesis 1 and Syllabic Segmentation 2, respectively, were the items that the lowest level of difficulty in the test, while the items Phonemic Segmentation 3, Phoneme Segmentation 4 and Phoneme Segmentation 2, respectively, were the most showed the highest level of difficulty in the test. Finally, there were differences were observed in differential functioning (DIF) for the school year variable. variable in all the instruments analyzed, but this was not the case for the gender variable.
