SUMMARY:

This research evaluated how nursing technicians perceive stress in the medical clinic sector of the Santa Casa de Barra Mansa hospital. In this sector, made up of 59 beds, there are hospitalized patients cared for by the SUS (Unified Health System), divided into male and female wards. This work is based on the assumption that each person has a way of conceiving and reacting to stressful events and that nursing technicians are among the professions considered the most stressful (KOINIS, 1984). The research aimed to analyze, in the nursing technicians' view, the stressful factors in patient care, the stressors present in the medical clinic environment and how stress at work impacts the tasks at the medical clinic, satisfaction at work and in life. To obtain the results, the qualitative method was used, and an open questionnaire containing 19 questions was applied to the 39 participants. The responses were analyzed a posteriori by Laurence Bardin content analysis. The investigation focused on conceptions of stress and its emotional, psychological and physical reactions; and its consequences on work and personal life. As a result, it was noticed that 76.92% of participants feel that their work in the medical clinic is stressful, with relationships with patients being the most prominent among the stressors. What was concluded from the research was that stress for nursing technicians impacts their emotional, physical health and interpersonal relationships, affecting satisfaction at work and in life. Although the results point to this conclusion, this research is not conclusive and opens up space for new discussions on the topic of stress in the hospital environment of the medical clinic for nursing technicians.
