SUMMARY:

In Brazil, psychological distress in adolescence has manifested itself in various ways, such as the increase in psychiatric diagnoses and self-injurious behaviors, which are often intensified by medicalization processes and the influence of social networks on mental health. This qualitative study seeks to understand the meanings attributed to the psychiatric diagnosis of adolescents, analyzing how these experiences impact subjectivity and amplify issues such as stigma and glamorization of suffering. In this work we will use the qualitative methodology, using semi-structured interviews and virtual ethnography as instruments. The data will be analyzed based on discourse analysis, which allows the articulation of the dimensions of suffering, subjectivity and social markers, proposing alternatives that value listening and reduce dependence on medical approaches. The expected results include proposals for more inclusive care practices, sensitive to suffering and linked to the uniqueness of adolescence.
