SUMMARY:

This project aims to understand how the workshop “Escrevivências on Stage” (Writing and Performing Life Stories) at the Centro de Convivência e Cultura de Niterói Dona Ivone Lara (CECO), which uses literature and writing inspired by Conceição Evaristo's Escrevivência and theatrical creation, based on Boal's aesthetics of the oppressed, can produce modes of subjectivation, resignify life stories, promote care and strengthen social bonds. The workshop proposes aesthetic-political practices of mental health care and try to transform narratives of socially marginalized subjects into autofictional texts and theatrical scenes, combining the concepts of Conceição Evaristo's Escrevivência and Augusto Boal's Theater of the Oppressed and enhancing the lives of participants. Escrevivência was a term created by Conceição Evaristo to name the writing produced by black people, especially women; it is the writing of a body, of a condition, of the black experience in Brazil. The Theater of the Oppressed (TO), founded by Brazilian playwright Augusto Boal in the 1970s during the military dictatorship, is not only a form of artistic expression, but also an aesthetic model critical of the way in which social roles imposed by the capitalist system are exercised, aiming to denounce the oppression of workers and the lack of freedom in the country. This research will be carried out weekly, on Thursday mornings with users of the Niterói Dona Ivone Lara Community and Culture Center and will last one hour. After the workshop, an Escrevivência will be produced inspired by the stories of four users who have racialized bodies, who are regulars at CECO and who participate in at least one workshop.
