SUMMARY:

The activities performed by military firefighters are marked by emergency responses and recurrent exposure to potentially traumatic situations. This occupational context has been associated with the development of mental disorders, among which Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) stands out, considered one of the most prevalent conditions in this population. Evidence indicates that PTSD may be related to cognitive impairments, especially in the domain of working memory. This research aims to conduct a systematic review of the main instruments used to assess working memory in firefighters in different countries, as well as to proceed with the translation, cross-cultural adaptation, and validation of the Working Memory Questionnaire (WMQ) for the Brazilian context. The adaptation process will follow standardized methodological steps, including independent translation by two bilingual translators, synthesis of the translated versions with a view to semantic equivalence, evaluation by a committee of experts, and back-translation into the original language. The sample will consist of 250 military firefighters from the State of Rio de Janeiro and 250 university students. Analyses will be conducted to obtain evidence of content validity and convergent validity, in addition to exploratory factor analysis and evaluation of the instrument's internal consistency.
