RESUMO:

The combatant officer of the Brazilian Army is formed by the Military Academy of the Agulhas Negras (AMAN) in the five years, being submitted to an internship regime, with the objective of training in the intellectual, physical, moral and psychological aspects, being crucial the measurement of his personality, from the selection process. In this sense, the present study aimed to investigate the temporal stability of the cadet personality submitted to military training, based on Trait Theory and the Five Big Factors model. The study was of a longitudinal character, comparing data collected in March 2015 and October 2017. Participated in the study 327 cadets, all male and with ages ranging from 18 to 26 years, who in 2015 were in the first and currently third year of training. Participants completed the Five Major Personality Factor Inventory (IGPF-5) and the Perceived General Self-Efficacy Scale in 2015, and in 2017 only the IGPF-5. Initially, using Pearson's linear correlation coefficient, a correlation analysis was performed on the data. There was a significant positive correlation between 0.5 and 0.6 (p <0.01) between the personality factors in both collections. However, Student's t-test for related samples revealed a significant difference in all personality factors considering the two years of data collection, highlighting that there was a significant increase in Neuroticism scores, while in the other factors (extroversion, kindness , openness and conscientiousness) there was a significant decrease (p <0.01). Then, 4 groups were formed according to the quartile reached in self-efficacy, in order to verify if the self-efficacy would play some protective role in the change of the personality scores. ANOVA revealed that, in both 2015 and 2017, significant differences were found between the five personality factors. It was emphasized that group 4 (fourth quartile) presented significantly higher scores in the measures of kindness, conscientiousness, openness and extraversion, and that group 1 (first quartile) presented significantly higher scores of neuroticism in both 2015 and 2017. The results , plus conclusions, bring important questions about the adaptability to military higher education, requiring more in-depth studies to enable a better understanding of the factors related to personality in the context of higher military training.
