SUMMARY:

In contemporary times, women have sought to occupy spaces that do not reduce their personal fulfillment to marriage and the arrival of children. In this perspective, being a woman-mother in a university context brings the challenge of reconciling demands of different natures in their life projects in the midst of sociocultural demands of an idealized maternity. This research aims to develop and evaluate a group program to promote mental health with university mothers, with a psycho-educational and emancipatory character, in order to reduce situations of vulnerability to psychological distress and strengthen psychosocial protection factors. This is a research-intervention that proposes the implication of the subjects in the construction of the field to be investigated. Undergraduate and graduate students from public and private universities, with children up to 10 years old, will be invited to participate. The women who show interest in participating and meet the research inclusion criteria will first be interviewed individually, using a semi-structured interview script. Following this, seven online group meetings will take place over seven weeks, using a virtual platform, guided by generating themes and conducted in such a way as to provide a favorable space for the exchange of experiences, as well as to stimulate awareness, problem solving, and joint reflections about the social roles they experience. Analyses of the group process will be carried out based on the reports transcribed from the sessions of each group. Furthermore, the results of the intervention will be evaluated based on the participants' statements collected after the end of the group work using a self-administered form for individual evaluation. As possible contributions of this research, we hope to understand, from the point of view of the women participants, the main vulnerabilities and protective factors for the mental health of college mothers, besides offering a model of group work, with an emancipatory perspective, for this population. It is also expected to expand the discussion about the importance of institutional policies to ensure access, permanence and progression of women-mothers in the academic context.
