Violence against women is considered a serious public health problem and a violation of human rights, and Brazil is the fifth country that kills the most women in the world. And in a country with a patriarchal culture, violence directed at women ends up being naturalized, making it difficult for the cycle of violence to be broken. Education can be a strong ally in preventing and combating this type of violence. because education is considered the best means of preventing and combating violence, being fundamental in the formation of a new conscience for children and adolescents. Education raises awareness and enables children and adolescents to be transforming agents of reality. In this sense, the Basic Education teacher becomes one of the main actors in this whole process. Making use of the Theory of Social Representations proposed by Serge Moscovici, who advocates that we produce a socially shared thought that directs social practices, we aimed to analyze the social representations of basic education teachers from schools in the city of Rio de Janeiro, in relation to women in a situation of violence. And for that, a Word Free Association Test (TALP) was used as a data collection instrument, which, based on the inducing term “Women in situations of violence”, asked the participants to express spontaneously the first five words that came to them. came to mind, in which it allowed us to identify the nuclear and peripheral elements of the representation. And a sociodemographic questionnaire was also used, allowing us to know the profile of this teacher, in addition to an open question. And for the analysis of the data obtained, the iramuteq software was used, which allowed us to carry out a structural analysis, which sought to discover the constitutive elements of the representation, to know its organization, and to discover the central core of this representation. As a result, social representations were observed from a perspective of pity for women, attributing to her feelings of fear, vulnerability, and suffering, in addition to a fragility that would be natural to the female gender. It is concluded that the representations associated with the gender role are still strong, determining characteristics conditioned to the biological sex, which strengthens the naturalization of violence, placing men in the place of aggressor and women in the place of victim
