SUMMARY:

Leadership is one of the functions that future professionals can assume throughout their functional progression, and which must be developed in their academic life. The Research Group: EQUIlibrium Rural: Transdisciplinary Interventions Assisted by Equines of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro, works with the training of university students in the provision of services aimed at well-being and quality of life through the interaction between human being and horse. Since the leadership development goes beyond the issue of spontaneous ability and enters the field of learning and personal and professional development, the leadership ability is foreseen in the action plan of its members.  Despite large investments in training to develop leadership skills, traditional programs do not seem to meet current needs. With this ideal, an unconventional proposal with contact with horses has been gaining ground in the organizational world. Equine Assisted Experiential Learning is used as a form of active training for potential leaders in the studied group. This research project is part of a larger research called: “Equine Assisted Learning in personal development”, here is an excerpt on the topic of leadership. It is based on a systemic and horizontal view of the leader and the act of leading, in line with Schein's humble leadership concept, Gardner's personal intelligence and leadership attributes described by Freitas, Klein and Fargundes. Its design is descriptive, qualitative and interventional with the objective of analyzing the development of leadership attributes in the student members of EQUIlibrium Rural, mediators of Equine Assisted Learning. A Leadership Development program will be implemented in two groups of facilitators, each with three training meetings, three days of observation of the groups in action and two Workshops with both groups gathered at the beginning and at the end. Data will be collected through (self)narrative, field diary and leadership self-assessment scales, and self-reflection and insight. The interpretation will be based on the Emancipatory Dialogic Narrative Analysis and the scales' own procedures. The expected results are: theoretical systematization of Equine Assisted Experiential Learning in relation to leadership with the creation of replicable protocols.
