Internalized stigma in the health care and self-care process of black women in the municipality of Volta Redonda
Internalized stigma, intersectionality, racism, sexism, black women's health.
The general aim of this study is to understand whether the processes of stigmatization, with an emphasis on internalized stigma, influence the health care and self-care of black women diagnosed with a mental disorder, monitored by the public health network or by the social protection network in the municipality of Volta Redonda, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. In order to meet the objectives of this research, a literature review will be carried out using the Scielo, PubMed, Psyinfo, Periódico CAPES and Lilacs databases. The descriptors used will be: “internalized stigma”, “self-stigma”, “intersectionality” and “health of the black population”, as there is no specific descriptor that delimits the health of black women. Papers published by Brazilian researchers and in Portuguese in the last fifteen years will be considered for papers dealing with the intersectionality between gender and race. However, papers published in a foreign language and by foreign researchers will be considered for papers dealing with internalized stigma. In addition, interviews will be carried out, as well as the application of a Socioeconomic Questionnaire and the application of the Brazilian version of the Internalized Stigma of Mental Disorder Scale and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. The results will be transcribed and analyzed using the discourse analysis technique with the support of lexical analysis software. The scales will be analyzed quantitatively in order to understand whether the results indicate the incidence of internalized stigma in the participants.
