SUMMARY:

     Rap is a musical genre with unique characteristics that establish it as a communication network from the periphery to the periphery. The rap of Abebe Bikila Costa dos Santos possesses a transformative ethical-aesthetic-political potential through the expression of the experiences of Black subjectivity in the neoliberal context of Rio de Janeiro. In this context, this research project aims to analyze the processes of subjectivity production affecting the experience of Black and marginalized youth in Rio de Janeiro through the music of rapper Abebe Bikila. We will conduct a cartography to map the intensities present in the songs from the albums Castelos e Ruínas (2016), Gigantes (2018), Cidade do Pecado (2021), and Ícarus (2023). The lyrics will be analyzed through the lens of concepts like necropolitics and Black becoming as developed by the Cameroonian philosopher Achille Mbembe. The concept of necropolitics refers to a modern strategy to manage who should live and who should die—a "politics of death"—while Black becoming addresses the current reality of those marginalized within our social context. We also consider the conceptual contributions surrounding the notions of apparatus, micropolitics, neoliberal capitalism, and collective assemblages of enunciation developed by thinkers such as Angela Davis, Félix Guattari, Frantz Fanon, Frantz Déus, Gilles Deleuze, and Suely Rolnik. These provide the necessary tools to undertake this cartography, as they offer a instrumentalize to consider rap as a political movement in the production of subjectivity.
