SUMMARY:

Scientific publishing plays a fundamental role in the advancement of science by promoting the socialization of knowledge. However, the management role performed by scientific editors is often assumed without proper formal training and is often developed through experience acquired in everyday life. The courses available and offered for publishing are predominantly oriented towards theoretical concepts and an introduction to the main tools, leaving significant gaps in practical training. This research emerges from a critical analysis of this training process, based on the author's personal trajectory as a scientific editor and educator of new editors, articulating perspectives from the areas of Psychology and Administration. The study is justified by its contribution to improving the training of new scientific editors. The general objective is to reflect on the training of scientific editors through the researcher's own self-narrative. The specific objectives are: (a) to systematize the scientific editorial management role in Brazil; and (b) to identify theoretical and practical aspects essential for the training of scientific editors. The theoretical frameworks include Kolb's experiential learning and humble leadership, as described by Schein and Schein. The research adopts a descriptive, qualitative and narrative approach, using as data sources the researcher-editor's self-narrative and various documents (memos, emails, reports, etc.). The data will be interpreted through Emancipatory Dialogic Narrative Analysis (EDNA/ANDE). The results identified the main functions and characteristics of the scientific editor, as well as fundamental theoretical and practical aspects for their training. Relevant personal characteristics include autonomy, perseverance and proactivity, while professional characteristics include humble leadership, curiosity, systematization and articulation skills. It is expected that this study will contribute to improving the training processes for scientific editors, promoting greater suitability, adaptation and effectiveness in the training of these professionals.
