SUMMARY:

Talking about fear is talking about affections; to talk about emotions is also to discuss ethical-political issues and to talk about ethical-political suffering (Sawaia, 1999) is to talk about the social pain of being placed in the place of an abject, as postulated by Butler (1993). Therefore, to talk about fear, an affection that is common to all of us, is also to talk about the use of this feeling to control minority bodies, perpetuating our suffering. We all fear, it is part of our reality as human beings, it is an affection that is fundamental to our preservation as a species, being afraid makes us avoid dangerous situations. But what happens when this affection that helps us in our self-preservation is used against us? Thus, the present work aims to reflect on how fear permeates LGBTQIA+ subjects, on how fear can be a tool for controlling minority bodies with rights, bodies that live on the margins of society or abject bodies. It is in the tension between fear and individual affection and fear and collective/social affection that I begin to reflect on the construction of LGBTQIA+ subjects as fearful and fearful. This is a qualitative study consisting of bibliographical research and theoretical reflection on the topic, structured around the following axes: 1) specifying what fear is and how it appears in the History and social imaginary of Western society; 2) attempting a genealogy of the norm and how the LGBTQIA+ subject is subjectified based on normative institutions, what movements he makes to transgress or reiterate the norm; 3) reflecting on new possibilities, what could fearful and fearful subjects produce as power? What is the positive power of fear? Would we then be courageous precisely because we are afraid? Would fear also be an affect that generates movement, beyond just survival? Thus, the aim is to reflect on the management of fear in the constitution of LGBTQIA+ subjectivities in contemporary Brazil.
