FEMININE ORALITIES: an intersectional study on the experiences and social memory of black women

The representations constructed about black women over the past few decades have been shaped by stereotypes that relegated them to a position of historical invisibility or reduced them to mere objects of exploitation of their bodies and labor. However, today, it is the disruptive escrevivências that mark a place of resistance, allowing each black woman to empower herself in order to tell her own story. This ongoing research focuses on the intersections of gender, race, class, age, among others, as evidenced in the social memories of black women. The central objective of this study is to analyze, through shared oral memories, how they are affected by the experience of being a black woman in the world, as well as by experiences of racism, in order to identify the strategies of mobilization and confrontation against gender and racial inequalities that they have constructed. To achieve this, interviews will be conducted with three groups of black women, divided into different age ranges. In addition to mapping individual experiences and the collective aspects arising from these experiences, the effectiveness of current public health support policies aimed at this group will be evaluated, as well as the contribution of psychology in reflecting on its knowledge and practices at the intersection of gender and race. To carry out these analyses, it will be necessary to observe how gender, race, and class discriminations operate together, compromising the quality of life of these individuals. This is a qualitative research study that will use escrevivência, as proposed by Conceição Evaristo, as a methodological and political writing tool. Furthermore, the theoretical framework that underpins the analyses of this study is based on the concepts of Collective Memory by Halbwachs and Quilombo Memory by Beatriz Nascimento, along with articulations with the social thought of Lélia Gonzalez.
