SUMMARY:

This research seeks to identify the social representations of Black women in the formal labor market, correlating these representations with the influence of the colonial period on Brazilian society, which perpetuates power relations that favor whiteness, keeping Black people in subordinate positions. The ideology of white supremacy affects the subjectivity of both white and Black individuals, leading to the mental colonization of Black people, limiting their opportunities and relegating them to informal and precarious positions. Black women are particularly affected, facing multiple oppressions such as sexism, racism, and patriarchy. They occupy disadvantageous positions in the labor market even when qualified, as well as precarious jobs. Understanding that the colonial period impacts race relations in Brazil to this day is the only path to an assertive and transformative understanding of reality, and the theory of social representations can help us understand the dynamics of these relationships.
