SUMMARY:

Talking about fear is talking about affection; discussing emotions is also discussing ethical-political matters e talking about ethical-political suffering (Sawaia, 1999), is talking about the social pain of being put in a place of abjection, as theorized by Butler (1993). For this reason talking about fear, an affection common to all of us, is also talking about the utilization of this sentiment to control minimized bodies, perpetuating our suffering. We all fear, is part of our reality as human beings, is a fundamental affection for our preservation as a species, being afraid makes us avoid dangerous situations. But what happens when this affection that helps in our self preservation is used against us? Thus, the present essay has the objective of reflecting about how fear crosses subjects LGBTQIA+, about how fear can be an apparatus used to control minority rights bodies, bodies that live at the edge of society or abject bodies. It’s in the tension of fear as an individual affection and of fear a collective/social affection, that I start to ponder about the construction of LGBTQIA+ subjects as frightened and frightening. This is a qualitative research constituted by bibliographical research and theoretical reflection of the theme, structured around the following axes: 1) specifying what is fear and how it appears in History and the social imaginary of western society; 2) attempt at a genealogy of the norm and how the LGBTQIA+ subject is subjectified from normative institutions and what movements they do to trespass or reaffirm the norm; 3) a reflection on new possibilities, what can frightened and frightening subjects generate as power? What is the positive power of fear? Could we be courageous exactly because we are afraid? Could fear also be an affection that generates movements other than those necessary for survival? Thus the aim for a result is to ponder on the management of fear on the constitution of LGBTQIA+ subjectivities in contemporary Brasil.
