RESUMO:

Affirmative action is public policy aimed at ensuring equal rights among citizens. In Brazil, the main affirmative action used is the quota system, in order to reduce existing inequalities among people of different races, since, historically, blacks have had their rights to better living conditions - work and study - denied. Discussions on the quota system divide opinions whenever proposed, for several factors. And, for this, it became a research imperative in social psychology. For this research, the theory of Social Representations proposed by the Romanian naturalized French Serge Moscovici, author who defines the social representations as scientific study of the common sense will be used. The main objective of this research is to identify the social representations about racial quotas for university entrance, from the social thought of high school students, public and private networks. Questionnaires with free recall tasks and open questions will be used
