SUMMARY:

The present research will analyze the association between the construct social identity, elaborated by the social anthropologist Celso Castro (2004) and defined as the spirit of the Army branches, and the concept of psychological types, elaborated by the psychologist Carl Gustav Jung (2013). The analysis will take place based on data from the corporate education process of cadets of the Agulhas Negras Military Academy (AMAN), whichtrains combatant officers of the Brazilian Army in one of the following specialties or branches: Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery, Engineering, Signal Corps, Quartermaster and Ordnance. The general objective of the research is to correlate the characteristics of the military spirit of each branch with the psychological typology developed by Carl Gustav Jung, in order to check if there is any correlation between the military spirit and the psychological profile of the cadets, according to the specialty chosen by them. The research will be carried out with cadets of the 4th year of AMAN, using a qualitative and quantitative methodology during data collection. The QUATI test, developed to assist the analysis of the psychological profile, will be applied to 454 cadets, with the sample stratified for the seven specialties already mentioned. The same sample of cadets will be submitted to a questionnaire prepared by the researcher, in order to verify: at what level some factors influenced the choice of the branch; how the adaptation to this specialty took place; and the level of motivation to perform the activities related to the chosen branch. In addition, a semi-structured interview will be carried out individually with 21 AMAN officers, professors and instructors from different specialties, of which three teachers from each of the seven branches will be counted.
