SUMMARY:

Sexuality is one of the fundamental factors in understanding human experience, influencing health, satisfaction with life and the way of relating to people. Although it has a clear importance, reliable and valid instruments to assess the sexuality of Brazilian women are scarce or non-existent. The objective of this work was to performe the translation, cross-cultural adaptation and presentation of evidence of validity of the Questionnaire on Sexual Quality of Life - Female (SQOL-F) and the Sexual Assertiveness Scale for Women (SAS for Women), in addition to correlating the data obtained with variables of sexual functioning. The results are presented in the format of three articles. In the first article, the translation, assessment of the content validity of the SAS for Women, test in a pilot group, application of the final version in 935 women through online forms and exploratory factor analysis with varimax rotation of the data obtained were performed. The results indicated that the original three-factor model did not fit perfectly, but presented satisfactory results explaining 46% of the variance, with adequate factor loadings, total Cronbach's Alpha of 0.81 and alpha of each factor ranging from 0.69 to 0 .81. It was concluded that the three-factor structure remained stable and had adequate internal consistency and factor structure for use. In the second article, the translation, content validity assessment of SQoL-F, pilot group test and exploratory factor analysis of the instrument were also performed. The presence of a single factor was identified and explained 49% of the variance, consistent with what was proposed in the original questionnaire. This one-factor model presented adequate factor loadings (between 0.355 and 0.850). The questionnaire showed good internal consistency and satisfactory validity evidence was presented for use with Brazilian women. In the third article, data on sexual assertiveness and sexual functioning of Brazilian women were obtained. They achieved an average of 51.09 on the EAS, with an average of 16.19 on the initiation scale, 18.38 on the refusal scale and 16.52 on the prevention of pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases scale. EAS was positively related to all domains of the sexual functioning scale. It is concluded that this research collaborated with the evolution of knowledge in female sexuality, especially in sexual assertiveness and quality of life.
