5G. Fifth Generation Internet. Technology. Innovation. Baixada Fluminense. Territory. Development.
The technical-scientific-informational environment is different: its impacts are faster, broader and deeper in relation to previous historical contexts. Given the predominance of algorithms and the multiple uses of artificial intelligence (AI) in everyday life, the production and interpretation of data have become one of the main commodities in the global market, while real-time information has become the new driving force of our age. And in this context, 5G technology has a determining factor, as its applications allow the deployment and development of countless other technologies and innovations, ranging from native cloud services; to blockchain; through the Internet of Things (IoT); among others; and result in a new global dynamic that impacts different dimensions of society. Thus, based on the impositions, appropriations and resistances that are consolidated in the processes of dissemination and domination of new technological and digital objects and systems, this work is dedicated to analyzing the implementation of the new generation of internet in the territories of the Quadrilátero da Periferia da Baixada Fluminense, formed by the municipalities of Belford Roxo, Mesquita, Nilópolis and São João de Meriti. With the aim of understanding and highlighting the socioeconomic impacts generated by the new Global Impulses related to 5G, since, based on the new selectivity and hierarchy of territories, peripheral locations are consolidating themselves as late destinations and scenarios of rapid exhaustion of their production and consumption models, in addition to the emergence and deepening of various inequalities.
