Memes and reading comprehension: didactic circuit for elementary school
Reading comprehension, Collaborative methodology, Memes
This work proposes the development of strategies for reading and understanding memes based on a didactic circuit, establishing a necessary relationship between digital genres and formal basic education, as well as promoting critical-reflective thinking about some social issues, such as inequalities, violence and racism. Although multimodal texts are still little explored in academic environment and relatively absent in the context of teaching and learning the mother tongue, this research highlights the meme as a popular genre on the Internet, widely disseminated and often interpreted as humorous or satirical, which tends to attract the students’ interest. Having as theoretical support the conception of language and genres according to Bakhtin (1997), the principles outlined by Dawkins (1976) on memes, as well as the postulates related to reading instruction proposed by Solé (1998), Koch (2009a, 2009b), Rojo (2012) and Marcuschi (2008). Also emphasized is the importance of basing all work on official education documents, especially the BNCC, as an essential reference for research.
