SUMMARY:

This study proposes a reflection on literacy practices for children outside the traditional literacy cycle, specifically in different grades of regular education. We start by recognizing the importance of literacy for the full development of the person, the exercise of citizenship, and qualification for work. from surveys of educational data, that a considerable number of children reach the fifth year of primary school without developing basic literacy skills. Based on a exploratory research, we employ bibliographic and documentary research to understand the relevance of phonological awareness, teaching spelling, and the approach of the textual genres poem and cyberpoem for consolidating the literacy of students who are lagging behind. To this end, we primarily rely on studies by Soares (2004; 2020; 2023), Morais (2010), Roberto (2016), and Rojo (2012). Thus, we seek to identify the role of phonological awareness in the effective literacy of these students, using the lexicon of our language, that is, exemplary words and sentences for literacy found in poems and cyberpoems. We believe that teaching spelling (as a teaching object rather than a means of assessment) based on phonological awareness can be enhanced by the poem/cyberpoem genre, as this genre mobilizes the phonological knowledge of the language. The auditory perceptions of speech are the initial step for students to develop phonological awareness. As a proposal, we present exemplary activities for teachers to use in the classroom with this student profile, contributing to helping to consolidate these skills.
