Teaching agreement of intransitive verbs in the 8th year of middle school from a variationist perspective
Verbal agreement. Unaccusatives. Unergatives. Variation. Teaching
Considering the syntax-semantics differences between the verbs
traditionally classified as intransitive, described in works such as Chierici’s
(2008), that subdivide them in unergative (The children dance graciously.)
and unaccusative (Doubts arose during the class.), this piece of work aims
to develop a pedagogic mediation with the phenomenon of agreement,
involving both subcategories of intransitive verbs, through epilinguistic
activities (Franchi, 2006). So that it will be adopted, the methodology of
research-action (Tripp, 2005; Thiollent and Colette, 2014), in which students
work alongside the teacher-researcher seeking solutions for a necessity of a
stablished learning: the use of the verbal agreement according to the
writing practices of literate society. This research is anchored on the
theoretical assumptions of the Variationist Sociolinguistics (Weinreich,
Labov and Herzog (2006 [1968]), and on their contribuition to teaching
(Bortoni-Ricardo 2004) also on the orientations in the teaching of grammar
since the official documents (PCNs and BNCC) to indications from
researches, such as Franchi (2006), Vieira (2017) and Pilati (2017). The
results indicated that the work accomplished contributed for the
enlargement of the linguistic repertoire of the students once it is
ascertained that in the final stage of the research, there was a substantial
increase in the insertion of marks of agreement between intransitive verb
and delayed subject, which represents, in addition to an approach of the
variety of prestige, the execution of a significant teaching grammar.
