SUMMARY:

This research aims to investigate how Yoruba myths, in contemporary children’s and young adult literature versions, can be mobilized in a didactic proposal that reaffirms African knowledge systems and promotes aesthetic, symbolic, and identity-based experiences within the school context. To this end, it begins with the reading of the myths to retextualize them into poems inspired by the orixás and their narratives. The theoretical framework is anchored in studies by authors such as Stuart Hall (2024), Kabengele Munanga (2024), Sueli Carneiro (2023), Chimamanda Adichie (2019), Aníbal Quijano (2000), Paulo Freire (2018), bell hooks (2017), Luís Antonio Simas (2024), Luiz Rufino (2020), Nei Lopes (2024), Reginaldo Prandi (2001), and Marcuschi (2010). The research adopts a qualitative and interpretative approach and is characterized as action research by combining investigation and practical action between the teacher-researcher and her students (Thiollent, 2011). The activities will be carried out by 7th-grade students from a public school located in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. Thus, it is expected to contribute to the construction of decolonial and antiracist pedagogical practices capable of transforming the collective imaginary about Afro-centered epistemologies and strengthening positive Black identities within the school environment.
