About the meaning and to feel: literature and performance in the basic education based on Cecília Meireles
Aesthetic education; poetry; performance; Cecília Meireles
The current study intends to stimulate middle school students as readers of literary texts, mainly canonical poems, based on a selection of three poems written by Cecília Meireles, namely, “Mar Absoluto” (Mar absoluto: e outros poemas, 1945), “Motivo” (Viagem, 1939) e “Romance das palavras aéreas” (Romanceiro da Inconfidência, 1953). It is about, through the performance bias, creating an enabling opportunity and environment for the pupil to be exposed to literary texts, in order to foster a tactile experience with poetry, arousing sensory reactions in the text-world-subjectivity correlation. The point of view of this study considers Cecília Meireles an approachable and plural artist with a sensitivity that can be greatly used. Besides being an active figure in the Brazilian basic education of her time, she is one of the great voices of our literature which evoke images, colors, sounds, lights, and aromas in her poetry. Her poems represent, thus, a favorable pedagogical tool to the teacher who intends to be the mediator and facilitate communication between the pupil and poetry. The notion of performance is based on Paul Zumthor, in the book Performance, recepção e leitura (2007), in which relations between poetry of the literary text and its impact on the body are established; and the defense of aesthetic education is based mainly on João Francisco Duarte Júnior, in Fundamentos estéticos da educação (1981). The expectation is that, having an immersion of the student on the literary universe, there will be an opening in the school, based on, especially, an aesthetic education, that aims the preparation for high school, the moment in which literature will be presented as another logic to be theorized.
