SUMMARY:

This work deals with the relevance of the adverbial adjunct of time in the construction of the news genre. The reading activity presupposes that the reader, based on social knowledge about textual genres, identifies its purpose. In the news genre, moreover, it is necessary to understand how a particular linguistic element contributes to its organization. The general objective of this research is to develop a proposal for teaching reading comprehension of texts in the news genre, through a didactic sequence, which intends to expand students' knowledge about the discursive functioning of these texts and offer conditions to solve possible Reading difficulties related to the identification of the main fact reported. To achieve this purpose, the specific objectives designed are: (1) assist the student in identifying the adverbial adjunct of time that is directly related to the identification of the new event and (2) assist the student in identifying the new event, the reported fact. Theoretical supports were adopted from the fields of Textual Linguistics (MARCUSCHI, 2002; 2008) and the Semiolinguistic Theory of Discourse Analysis (CHARAUDEAU, 1992; 2001; 2005; 2010). The activities developed have as a target audience students from a 7th grade class of elementary school of a public school of the city of Rio de Janeiro, in the neighborhood of Sepetiba.
