The Mind Map as a resource to promote reading strategies: a pedagogical metacognitivist proposal for students in flow correction.
School flow correction, reading metacognitive strategies, mind map.
Researches indicate that during reading tasks students that repeat the grade use few or almost no metacognitive strategies in comparison to the ones that did not repeat (JOLY; SANTOS; MARINI, 2006). For this reason, this research’s general goal is to investigate the teaching and learning of the reading metacognitive strategies for students in flow correction situation. The specific goals are: (a) recognizing which reading metacognitive strategies these students already use and (b) to investigate the use of the mind map as a metacognitive reading strategy and (c) proposing a didactic unit to teach reading in the flow correction context. The exploratory methodology will be applied based on the following methodological procedures: a sociocultural questionnaire and preliminary diagnostic activities, which were used to understand the activating movements of previous knowledge held by the students during the reading activities. Nineteen students from a school unit in the state network of Duque de Caxias, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, participated in this research. In diagnosis, we observed a predominance of only literal responses, a special difficulty in detecting the meaning of words and the limited use of observable metacognitive strategies, such as underlining. Based on the observation that these factors drive the student's distance from his position of reader with the text, we defined as the focus of the pedagogical proposal to explore the integration of previous knowledge and systematize a didactic protocol capable of serving as a resource through the mind map, promoter of metacognitive reading strategies.
