SUMMARY:

This dissertation focuses on  metacognitive didactics contribution  as a way to enhance the metaphorical language understanding in African Literature  short stories by Mia Couto.  This research main objective  was to analyze bibliographical references that could guide the studies in a more in-depth way, allowing the conclusions arising from the research to contribute to a pedagogical notebook  elaboration of, whose didactic sequence was able to improve  students performance with regard to texts interpretation, specially   metaphorical language present in Mia Couto’s short stories. (2009, 2013, 2014). The research proposal arose from the difficulty presented by the students in face of  interpreting texts with a more metaphorical content activities, so the didactic sequence was structured with pedagogical proposals supported by metacognitive didactics, thus aiming for the students to develop a practice of more successful reading and are encouraged to manage their own learning process through self-regulation, after all, we live in a graphocentric society, which makes the reading and writing acts proficiently essential. This dissertation is theoretically based on the assumptions of Cognitive Linguistics based on the studies of Lakoff and Johnson (2002), orienting towards metacognitive didactics as proposed by Palomanes (2018), based on the studies of Flavell (1987), Brown (1978), Flavell and Wellman (1977); Boruchovitch and Gomes (2019) based on the studies of Bandura (1996) and Zimmerman (1998). Through  bibliographical research methodology, supported by authors  as Lakatos and Marconi (2003), the reading of works with a scientific character occurred, which enabled  the theoretical foundation construction  of the dissertation,   contradictions identification,  answers discovery to the questions carried out,  a pedagogical notebook elaboration  and, finally,  conclusions formulation about the study carried out.
