SUMMARY:

This study aims to analyze the distance and the proximity between speech and writing, from the idea that reading and writing are essential skills for citizenship formation, since the lack of them may lead to a social exclusion within a socio-historical-cultural context. The object of this research is the investigation and analysis of the linguistic phenomenon referring to the deletion of /R/ in the writing of the 9th-grade-students at a state public school, in the municipality of Duque de Caxias, in Rio de Janeiro, taking into consideration the zero mark at the end of the written syllables in words morphologically classified as verbs and non-verbs. It is also important to notice the deletion of /R/ in the medial coda position, as well as the addition of this phoneme, even though they are not the main objects of this study
