BIG AREA: Lingüística, Letras e Artes
AREA: Letras
SUMMARY:

This research aims to develop the habit and appreciation of literary reading through a set of pedagogical activities based on the chronicle genre, grounded in the three levels of reading—sensory, emotional, and rational—as proposed by Martins (1994). The specific objectives are: a) to encourage reading, reflection, and critical thinking through discussions on social, cultural, and emotional issues present in the selected chronicles; b) to explore the structural, linguistic, and stylistic features of the chronicle genre; and c) to expand students’ argumentative skills through the production of video minutes to express opinions and/or perceptions derived from the readings. It is assumed that, as a short narrative text portraying everyday events and featuring accessible language, the chronicle may serve as a gateway to fostering a taste for literary reading. The theoretical framework is supported by the works of Cosson (2014), Martins (1994), Kleiman (2002), Koch and Elias (2008), Rojo and Moura (2012), Bender and Laurito (1993), among others. The methodological approach follows the principles of action research as proposed by Thiollent (2011).
