SUMMARY:

This project outlines the steps of a didactic circuit for the understanding by 7th grade elementary school students of the referencing process that involves the phenomena of the subject (filled and hidden) and the anaphoric direct object of the third person (ADO), as in ‘My son was sick. I had to take him to the hospital’. Regarding the use of the subject, the anaphoric reference in the second sentence is established through an omitted subject, traditionally considered hidden and endorsed by the normative grammars of Portuguese. The students, however, find it easier to use the subject pronoun he/she/they to refer back to an antecedent in another sentence. This is not considered a "mistake in Portuguese." It is, however, another possibility of anaphoric reference. As for the use of the anaphoric direct object in the 3rd person, the reference to my son occurs through the clitic 'lo' referring to the antecedent 'my son.' In this function, there are four possibilities of realization: accusative clitic, as already mentioned above, the lexical pronoun, him/her/them, as in 'take him,' the nominal phrase, 'take my son,' and also the null direct object, 'take -- to the hospital’.We must emphasize that sociolinguistic studies confirm that the use of the direct object pronoun (ODA), in Brazilian Portuguese, features the null direct object (ODN) and lexical pronoun as innovation strategies. However, the use of these forms is not recognized as linguistic prestige strategies for textual progression, contrary to what is prescribed for the use of the hidden subject. Nevertheless, when we encounter textual productions from the students of this researcher, it is observed that their linguistic reality shows a significant recurrence of these two strategies, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, there is an absence of accusative clitics. This project, therefore, aims to primarily develop didactic strategies for the understanding and conscious use of anaphoric references of the subject and the direct object in the 3rd person and their possibilities of realization within written production that contribute to the construction of a chain of referentiality. To this end, a didactic circuit will be developed in stages based on a verbal literary narrative, which will serve as the basis for reflections. To conclude the phases of the circuit, students will be asked to produce a narrative in the third person motivated by the reading of a non-verbal text, in which they must use the referential strategies studied in the previous stages. In order to articulate the actions in a way that makes them meaningful, concerning didactic aspects, we base our approach on the principles of Collaborative Learning Theory (Behrens, 2004). As for the theoretical aspects, the foundation lies in normative grammars (Cunha and Cintra, 2001; Rocha Lima, 2007; (Cegalla 2020) and in linguistic studies (Antunes, 2003 and 2005; Koch & Elias 2013 and 2015; Marcuschi, 2008; Neves, 2006).
