SUMMARY:

Sociolinguistic studies on the oral modality of Brazilian Portuguese have demonstrated an increasing filling in of the pronominal subject (Duarte, 1993; Bravin dos Santos, 2006; 2010). However, the writing practiced by literate Brazilians in literacy events still preserves the null subject, since it is influenced by normative instruments (cf. Bortoni-Ricardo, 2004), which prescribe ellipsis. Based on the theoretical assumptions of Variationist Sociolinguistics and the application of the linguistic variation continua proposed by Bortoni-Ricardo (2004), this work aims to develop a pedagogical mediation with the phenomenon of the realization of the anaphoric pronominal subject through epilinguistic activities (Franchi, 2006), in order to promote literacy among students in 6th grade middle school.
