The recognizing main and secondary information by students of Fundamental Education: analysis and metacognitivist pedagogical proposal.
Central and Secondary textual information, metacognitve strategies, reading comprehension.
This research has as general objective to investigate the student's reading practice of recognizing main and secondary information in texts in the final years of elementary school. Specific objectives are assumed: (1) to analyze how this skill is officially presented and evaluated; (2) to investigate students' practice to differ central from secondary textual information and the metacognitive strategies they use for that; and (3) to propose activities that assist in the process of reading through metacognition. Finally, a qualitative approach is adopted as a methodology, based on the principles of action research. The methodology will consist of two main procedures: (1) the critical analysis on the approach of the descriptor 9 (differentiating the main parts from the secondary parts in a text),in the Base Nacional Comum Curricular and in the state assessments of Prova Conhecer, and, (2) a comprehension test accompanied by a questionnaire on the use of metacognitive strategies. Consequently, it is expected to define this skill more precisely, from a cognitive perspective and to analyze what motivates the low performance of students in the descriptor 9, In order that, subsequently, create a pedagogical proposal that supports awareness of the cognitive process of identifying the main and secondary information in the texts.
